Production Services in Kenya for Visiting Crews

Production Services in Kenya for Visiting Crews

Local production services in Kenya for visiting film crews, NGOs and broadcasters: crew, permits, locations, consent and logistics from Nairobi.

Amboseli landscape

If you are bringing a production to Kenya, the hardest parts are rarely the filming. They are the permits, the access, the logistics and making sure the people you film understand what they are agreeing to. Afrovo Studios is a Nairobi-based production company that supports visiting crews with all of it.

What we provide

  • Local crew: camera operators, sound recordists, photographers and production assistants.
  • Permits: the KFCB filming licence, national park filming fees and location permissions. Foreign crews must be facilitated by a local film agent. See our guide to filming permits in Kenya.
  • Locations and access: research, recces and introductions to communities, conservancies and organisations.
  • Consent and releases in Kiswahili and English, in line with Kenya’s data protection guidance.
  • Drone and aerial filming by our KCAA-licensed pilots, under our own KCAA operator certificate, so you do not need to import a drone. See drone and aerial filming.
  • Logistics: transport, accommodation and scheduling.
  • Interviews and translation in Kiswahili.

Fixer or production company?

A fixer arranges access. A production company can also film, edit and deliver, and take responsibility for the result. Many visiting teams use us for both: we fix for their own director and crew, then deliver additional footage, local-language versions or social cuts afterwards. Read fixer or production company? What visiting crews should hire.

Who we support

  • International NGOs and foundations sending their own communications teams.
  • Documentary and broadcast crews.
  • Agencies producing campaigns for brands working in Kenya.
  • Researchers and universities recording fieldwork.

Frequently asked questions

How far ahead should we get in touch?

As early as possible. Some permissions take days; drone approvals and equipment imports can take several weeks.

Can you work outside Kenya?

We work across East Africa. Permits and lead times differ in each country, so we plan them early. See video production in East Africa.
