Afrovo Studios is based in Nairobi and works across East Africa. Many of the organisations we film for run programmes in several countries, and need one production partner who can plan across borders and keep the look, the ethics and the paperwork consistent.

Kenya

We are based in Nairobi and most of our work is in Kenya: Laikipia and the central highlands, Lake Victoria and Kisumu, the coast and the northern rangelands. Our Kenya projects include Path to Zero Poaching, Fishers of Change and Hope Behind the Floods.

Working across the region

Every country has its own filming permits, drone rules and lead times, and some are slower than Kenya’s. For regional projects we plan permits first and build the schedule around them. We can travel with a Kenyan core crew, or work with trusted local crew in the country.

• Uganda: film licensing through the Uganda Communications Commission; drone approvals can take weeks.
• Tanzania: Tanzania Film Board permits; drone permits from the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority must be arranged well before arrival.
• Rwanda: drones need a Rwandan pilot certificate and activity permit, and must be declared on entry.
• Ethiopia: media licensing and drone rules are strict; allow extra time.

Permit summaries are general guidance as of September 2026. We confirm current requirements with the relevant authority for every project.

What we make

NGO films, documentaries, fundraising films, training videos and Kiswahili versions for audiences across the region.
